WKU K1 South Africa ("WKU K1 SA", "we", "us", or "our") operates the WKU Curriculum Tracker mobile application ("the App"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and protect your personal information when you use the App.

By creating an account and using the App, you agree to the collection and use of information as described in this policy.

Information We Collect

Account Information

When you register for an account, we collect:

• Email address - used for account authentication, login, and essential communications.

• Full name - used to identify you within the App (visible to your coach and club).

• Account type - whether you are a student, club/coach, or administrator.

Profile Information

You may optionally provide:

• Profile photo - uploaded to personalise your account and visible to your coach and club.

• Club affiliation - which club you belong to as a student.

Payment Information

We use Paystack, a third-party payment processor, to handle subscription payments. When you make a payment:

 

• We do not store your credit card number, bank account details, or other financial data on our servers.

• Paystack processes and stores your payment information in accordance with their own privacy policy (available at https://paystack.com/privacy).

• We store only a reference to your Paystack customer account and subscription status to manage your access

Usage Data

The App automatically collects:

• Skill progress data - which skills you have completed, their approval status, and timestamps.

• Belt progression data - your current belt level and grading history.

Technical Data

We may collect limited technical information such as device type, operating system, and app usage logs to improve performance and reliability.

How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

• Provide and maintain the App's functionality.

• Authenticate your identity and manage your account.

• Track and display your martial arts curriculum progress.

• Enable coaches to review and approve student skill demonstrations.

• Process subscription payments through Paystack.

• Communicate essential account-related information (such as account approval or payment issues).

We do not use your information for advertising, marketing emails, or selling to third parties.

 

Data Sharing and Third-Party Services

We use trusted third-party services (including Supabase for data storage and Paystack for payments) which may process personal data on our behalf in accordance with their respective privacy policies.

We share your personal information only in the following circumstances:

 

• With your coach/club - your name, profile photo, and skill progress are visible to the coach and club you are affiliated with.

• With WKU K1 SA administrators - administrators can view account and progress data for the purpose of managing the curriculum system, promotions, and gradings.

• With Paystack - your email address is shared with Paystack to process payments.

• As required by law - we may disclose information if required to do so by law or in response to valid legal requests.

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to any third party.

Data Storage and Security

• Your data is stored on Supabase, a cloud database platform with servers secured using industry-standard encryption.

• Profile photos and club logos are stored in Supabase Storage.

• We use Row Level Security (RLS) policies to ensure users can only access data they are authorised to see.

• All data transmitted between the App and our servers is encrypted using HTTPS/TLS.

While we take reasonable measures to protect your information, no method of electronic storage or transmission is 100% secure.

Data Retention

• Your account data is retained for as long as your account is active.

• You may request deletion of your account and all associated data by contacting us at support@k1sa.co.za, and we will process your request within a reasonable timeframe.

• Payment records may be retained as required by applicable financial regulations.

Children and Young Users

The App is designed for martial arts students of all ages, including children and teenagers. We welcome young users.

• Students under the age of 18 must have parental or guardian consent before creating an account.

• Parents and guardians are responsible for overseeing their child's use of the App.

• A child's name, profile photo, and skill progress will be visible to their coach and club, just as it would be in a regular training environment.

• We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 without verifiable parental consent. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account without appropriate consent, please contact us so we can take appropriate action.

• Parents or guardians may request access to, correction of, or deletion of their child's data at any time by contacting us.

Your Rights

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to:

• Access the personal data we hold about you.

• Request correction of inaccurate data.

• Request deletion of your account and data.

• Object to or restrict certain processing of your data.
